He arrived in Lanzarote in the late 1990s to study at the Arrecife Maritime and Fisheries Vocational Training Institute, where he earned his Deep-Sea Skipper and Yacht Captain certifications. Since then, he has remained closely connected to the island and the sea, continuously training and dedicating himself to his passion: sailing.

Qualifications & Experience

With a career spanning over 30 years at sea, Eduardo is an experienced Deep-Sea Skipper, Coastal Skipper, and Yacht Captain. His certifications allow him to command commercial and recreational vessels of up to 1,600 GT in various navigation zones. His training includes advanced courses in maritime safety, radio communications, rescue operations, and precision navigation, ensuring a high level of professionalism, expertise, and safety on every voyage.

Throughout his career, he has worked as a skipper and first officer on luxury catamarans, tourist vessels, and research ships, conducting charters in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Atlantic, as well as overseeing oceanic transfers of large vessels. He has taken part in major nautical events such as the Tall Ships 2007 and the America’s Cup and has been actively involved in oceanographic studies and marine conservation projects.

His deep knowledge of the marine environment, expertise in navigation, and passion for sustainability make him a key figure in the Gara Itsasoa team, where he leads voyages with the same dedication and respect for the ocean that have defined his entire career.

The role of captain

The Captain is the ultimate responsible for the catamaran. His duties include navigation, route planning, and making crucial decisions during the voyage. In addition, he oversees all onboard operations, ensuring the safety of passengers and crew, as well as compliance with maritime regulations.
