Gara is a marine researcher and oceanographer, specialized in microplastics and their impact on cetaceans. She is responsible for the research and scientific outreach of the project. Her experience in marine conservation, ocean pollution, and biodiversity, combined with her deep love for nature and the seas, makes each voyage a unique opportunity to discover, learn, and preserve marine life.
Gara holds a degree in Marine Sciences, with specialized training in Conservation Biology and Protected Natural Areas. She has complemented her academic journey with courses and external internships, allowing her to gain a comprehensive perspective on the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems.
Her professional experience is defined by her involvement in marine research and conservation projects, highlighting her work in microplastic analysis, cetacean studies, and marine habitat restoration. She has collaborated with various organizations and companies in the marine field of the Canary Islands, participating in research campaigns and the characterization of protected marine species.
Additionally, she has participated in international conferences such as the World Marine Mammal Conference and the International Conference MICRO, contributing her expertise on ecotoxicology and marine pollution. Her laboratory experience includes advanced techniques such as FTIR spectroscopy, gas chromatography, and chemical pollutant analysis.
Now, she is part of the Gara Itsasoa team, where she contributes her expertise in marine research and environmental education. Her mission is to transform science into an accessible tool for ocean conservation, bringing scientific outreach on board and leading research projects on the catamaran.

The Biologist is responsible for scientific research activities on board. This includes the collection of water and marine organism samples, data analysis in the catamaran’s laboratories, and collaboration with academic institutions. Additionally, the Biologist acts as a guide during scientific outreach activities, educating passengers about marine conservation and biodiversity.
